A Line of Duty themed hen party!!

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Saturday, May 29, 2021, In : General
So I read on Twitter recently that a woman in Belfast had a Line of Duty inspired hen party!! That is just genius and combines two of my favourite things! If you haven't heard of Line of Duty - it is focused around AC 12 (Anti corruption unit) that investigates bent coppers. DCI Kate Flemming and Steve Arnott work with Ted Hastings in trying to find out who the mysterious hen honcho "H" or the fourth man is. It's the best drama on TV I reckon.

So in homage to this, I've written a little ditty...

Dance parties in London and the South

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, In : Brighton
Lucy from London has been in touch about a hen party that she recently organised. The main activity on the Saturday was a dance class booked with Dance Connection www.danceconnection.org.uk

The choreographer was called Allan Jay and this is what Lucy had to say about him "he did such a fab job keeping 21 girls in control and making sure we learnt the whole routine in the allotted time. It was his suggestion to do Jai Ho and everyone loved it - it was absolutely perfect. We have recorded the ro...

Celebrity hen parties

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Thursday, March 7, 2013, In : General

So the fact that Jennifer Aniston is getting married got me thinking about celebrities and their hen parties. I wonder what our Jenni will get up to for hers? I'm not sure  - but I bet it will involve lots of "Friends."

 *sorry*

So after making up terrible gags, I thought I'd do some research as to what celebrities got up to for their hen parties and I found this great article on Glamour.co.uk

Looking to book the accommodation for your hen do but no idea where to start?  A couple of websites I could recommend for cheap hotel deals are Alpha Rooms and trivago.

See if they do any group discounts as well as no doubt you will be travelling on masse!

Venturing abroad for your party but again bamboozled by all the different websites out there. How about trying Net Flights for cheap flights and hotel rooms.

If you've found a great website for hen party bookings then do tell me about it - I...

A thank you poem

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, In : Hen Party Poems
Quite a few people are looking for "thank you for coming on my hen party" poems!!

This is a really nice idea. As the bride to be you could either read out a poem of thanks on the actual night itself (wouldn't it be funny if one of your hens has written a poem for you too...!) or you could send out a poem either to your bridesmaids to say thank you for organising a fab hen party or to everyone to say thank you for coming.

Poems for all occasions

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, In : Hen Party Poems

I've written several hen party poems this week for people and have had some really lovely feedback.

One girl wrote "Thank you so much Lisa, I love it."
Another wrote "I think it's brilliant - thank you!"

Check out some example verses I've written on the poems page of this website.

After sending her a poem, one girl wrote back to me and said (and I swear I'm not making this up...)

"Ah wow, that is super. I'm so overwhelmed, you're a very clever lady!!! It's fantastic....Do you only do Hen Part...

Hen Party Games

A few people have asked me about good hen party games. I have some suggestions here - and also a link to a great website that is full of ideas of games for a hen do.

How about a Mr and Mrs quiz for the bride to be? Read my earlier blog post for some inspiration for questions.
http://www.henpartyhelp.co.uk/blog/mr-and-mrs

"Would you rather" is also quite amusing. I actually bought a box game of this quiz ages ago and it's billed as "The Game of diabolical dilemmas!" It's basically a set of ver...

Hen party T-shirts

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Friday, June 29, 2012, In : General
One good way of making sure you stand out in a crowd on a hen do (and also that you don't lose anyone!) is to have your own hen party t-shirts made.

This can be a fun way to make everyone feel part of a special occasion. But how do you go about getting them? One firm I've heard good things about is www.troublemakerclothing.co.uk. They have a range of hen and stag designs which are fully customisable - they are able to do designs from scratch or you can choose from their range. All you need to...

Hen party at the races

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, In : General

A hen do watching horse racing can be great fun! Get yourself dolled up, grab yourself a member's ticket, drink some champagne and have a flutter or two.

Here's a few tips for anyone who is planning a hen party at the races.

When and where?
First of all either choose a date you want to go or a racecourse you'd like to visit. Then check if there is a meeting on the day you want to go. Good websites to check out the fixture list for racing are http://www.racingfixtures.co.uk/ and http://www.brit...

Hen party in London

"Thanks to Hen Party Help, I managed to arrange a fabulous weekend hen do in London for my best friend from University. We have known each other for years so it was easy to know what she would and wouldn't like, but organising 20 people was slightly more difficult!

I'm just back from a lovely wedding near Cambridge (congratulations Mr and Mrs Coney!) and chatting to one of the guests about this site she told me what she did for her hen party and it sounded great.

They went to Vinopolis in central London (the nearest tube is London Bridge) where they enjoyed some wine tasting and also some pampering. Apparently, after enjoying some fizz, there was a room they went into where they all had a manicure.

On researching this, I came across something very exciti...

What to write in a hen party book

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, In : Hen Party Poems

Quite a few people are asking about hen party books and what messages they should write in them. This is quite a toughie as I guess you want the message to be fairly short and quite sweet (without being too sickly!) but also personal to the bride to be.

I would suggest thinking about one or two key moments that you and the hen have shared and definitely write about them. Is there one particular memory that always come to mind when you think of her? Dancing around the living room and playing S...

Mums and hen dos

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Sunday, May 27, 2012, In : Tips
Someone asked me the other day whether I thought Mums should go on hen dos.

I have to say I'm of the school of thought that says that mothers should be invited to at least one of their daughter's hen dos. I've been to quite a few celebrations where mothers and even mother-in-laws have been invited and it's been a really nice touch. There's always the option that the mothers peel off home before the night gets too raucous!

If you're close to your Mum then it probably won't be such a hard deci...

Hen party email invitation

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Saturday, May 19, 2012, In : Tips

Are you a bridesmaid just about ready to send out that first hen party email? Wondering what to put in it and what tone it should take?

I would keep the initial email fairly brief but friendly, make sure you put a relevant subject title, introduce who you are, say why you are emailing them, state the proposed dates for the hen do, as well as the location and may be a very rough outline of what you are going to be getting up to. Ask people to respond to you as soon as possible. And remember to...

Cheap hen party ideas

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Friday, May 18, 2012, In : Tips

Nowadays, hen parties can be extremely expensive affairs, with many brides to be opting to have multiple hen dos away from home. So what about some cheap hen party ideas? What about people who may not want to drink? You may have some pregnant friends who can't drink. And what about those skint...

London - Ellie's hen do

Cassie from London went on Ellie’s hen party last weekend and this is what they got up to…..

Where did you have the hen party? London (Islington)

When? Saturday 5th May 2012, 11am til late

What did you know in advance? Everything, except what we were actually making in the craft session and the little, pretty surprises that the bridesmaids had in store i.e. name tags and place mats with the bride-to-be’s face on them!

How many were in your party? 14

Where did you stay? We didn’t ...

Mr and Mrs

Posted by Lisa Shaw on Monday, May 7, 2012, In : Games
Mr and Mrs can make a great game for any hen party. All you need to do is ask the groom some questions, note down his answers and then see if the bride says the same answers! Simple. For every one she gets wrong, you could make her do a forfeit and for every one she gets right she could get a little present.

Example questions are

About the groom.....
What is your shirt collar size?
What's your favourite band?
If the bride to be could get rid of one item in your wardrobe what would it be?
Where ...

Chester - the bridesmaid's tips

Super bridesmaid Liz organised the hen weekend in Chester for Anna and these are her top tips....

“Be cheeky! The spa gave a complementary treatment for the bride when asked to.

Take a megaphone, whistle etc if you have a particularly rowdy group of 16.

The cocktail bar, BarLounge, was brilliant particularly the cocktail which came with bread and cheese and the chilli ones. Allow plenty of time for cocktail drinking so everyone can enjoy at least two!

The staff at the restaurant, Conviv...

Manchester hen parties

I've had my hair done today (highlighted and cut for anyone who's interested!) and my hairdresser said she's just been on a hen do in Manchester. It cost us £6 to get there in a taxi from the train station. There we got changed into our swim suits and bikinis and headed for the spa area (robes, towels and slippers were all provided). I had the pleasure of being invited to Anna's hen do in Brighton in April 2012. We stayed at a house that sleeps up to 20 people and is right in the centre near the sea front and the pier. It's also walking distance from the train station. • a spreadsheet of who's paid what, who's chosen what on the menu etc is invaluable and don't forget to print it out and take it with you!
